where each being sits

The Morphospace

Every body in the codex is a point in one space of 34 axes in eight layers: its book, form, life, matter, dynamics, being, marks and vision (laws §8). Four of its layers are shaped in part by the four trees: Llull chooses the book, Roget the palette and matter, Wilkins the symmetry and outline, WordNet the gesture and growth. Choose any two axes, or one, and every plate is set in the grid of their values. Below the grid, each axis is explained, value by value, in the words the drawing model is given.

III All the axes

The eight layers of the morphospace, the codex’s own ranks, and the four trees. Each axis shows how many of its values the plates take. Choose one to set it across the grid above.

IV The map of likeness

Each body placed by how much it shares with the others, laid flat by classical multidimensional scaling. The map has no units, only neighbourhoods; its edges are labelled with the values most found there. Tick the layers that should count.
